I started at Synstar within a few months of being made redundant from the RAC. This role was more hardware only based and HP bought out Synstar after about a year and we were all TUPE’d into HP to become HP-CDS.

The picture to the right shows a Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 server in a bad way with tons of dust etc. An example of  how not to do it. I looked after STK Nearline and the attendant bits and bobs, 9710, DEC VAX 6610 x 2, Proliants by the dozen, RS6000, Sequent Numa and a variety of Sun equipment.

I also developed a more reliable form of hard-disk based on Compact Flash that improved the reliability of the STK SSU’s that booted the 9490 tape drives.
